Effective communication within (project) teams – Part 2

Could you show or name me the clearly defined framework of values and the ‘code of conduct’ of your current (project) teams? Or have you skipped this as you assume that ‘everyone knows already’.

This is a big mistake in my opinion!

It does not take very long and is invaluable to avoid misunderstanding and consequently causing unnecessary damage to the project’s outcome.

Other questions you might find useful:

  • Are the team players sensitive to the different time zones for example when setting up web-ex meetings?
  • Does the majority of the team being located in one time zone usually set the time and location of the meetings and the rest have to follow suit?
  • Is it balanced so everyone shares the sacrifices that working around the clock and the globe demands?
  • How much clarity can you provide as the Project Leader? (I don’t call it Project Manager on purpose…)

Clarity in terms of:

  • Goals?
  • Vision?
  • Mission?
  • Strategies?
  • Structures?
  • Processes?
  • Culture?

You better not circumvent those crucial discussions or design processes related to these key components for success – otherwise you will pay the price of falling short later on, when things start to get out of hand and team members begin to blame each other for the lack of success.

We can help and support teams to create the clarity needed early on in the project – which is the ideal timing. For success does not happen by accident – but by design.

Clarity is power. Clarity within (in the heads and hearts of all team members) = clarity without (in the results at the bottom line).
